Gail Webb
Living in suburban Canberra Gail takes her inspiration from what is all around, in the home, garden, city and landscape. She seeks to create images using mostly pastels and pencils, that invite the viewer to notice the unusual, beautiful or surprising. For this artist the 2020 pandemic lockdown brought a quiet uncomplicated simplicity to daily life that allowed her an unexpected opportunity to appreciate, imagine and create with greater intensity and clarity.
The model for “Teapot on the Run” was acquired years ago from a market seller who gave the teapot legs and arms made from bent forks. The image represents this year’s predominately unavailable option, the opportunity to run somewhere and the red background is an expression of the passionate desire to make a dash for “it”.
